Product Description

Cephadex 500 mg is a prescription used for various bacterial infections such as Respiratory tract infections, otitis media (inflammation of the ear), skin and skin structure infections, Bone infections, and genitourinary infections, including acute prostatitis. It contains the active ingredient cephalexin, which works by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis of bacteria; the absence of a cell wall causes bacteria’s death and cure the infection.

How To Use

Cephadex 500 mg is suitable for adults and paediatric patients at least 15 years of age. Your doctor may ask you to take 500 mg every twelve hours, and you need to continue treatment for 7 to 14 days. For more severe infections, you may be given larger doses of Cephadex capsules. A low dose of Cephalexin will be prescribed to paediatric patients. For the treatment of Otitis media, your doctor may prescribe a lower concentration of Levofloxacin. Dosage adjustment is necessary for adults and paediatric patients at least 15 years of age with renal impairment.

Precautions

Cephadex 500 mg is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to this drug or other cephalosporin class antibacterial drugs. Patients should be assessed carefully so that any side effects so that any unusual side effects of the drug could be detected. The medicine could not be used in pregnancy unless considered essential by your doctor. Inform your doctor straight away if you get pregnant or in between the treatment; your doctor will tell you about using the drug after assessing the benefits of Cephadex over risks. The antibiotic drug can pass into breast milk, so extra care should be taken while giving the medicine to a nursing mother. In general, Cephalexin does not influence driving ability, but if you experience dizziness after taking medicine, you must avoid driving or indulging in any activities that require you to alert. Alcohol consumption during the treatment can increase the risk of side effects like dizziness and nausea. You should avoid alcohol consumption during the treatment. Cephalexin capsules may interact with other medicines and may alter the effects of either of your medications. Therefore, inform your doctor straight away if you are using any other medicines, over the counter drugs and herbal preparations. Especially medicines used to treat gout should be used with caution. Concomitant use of antibiotics with water pills, gentamycin, and streptomycin can increase the risk of kidney problems.  

Side Effects

If you get persistent diarrhea, immediately call your doctor. You may find other superinfection that occurs during the treatment; visit your doctor, he/she will take appropriate measures to resolve them. Most common side effects do not require any medical attention and resolve after a few days of the treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Speak to your doctor straight away if they persist in trouble you or you are concerned about them. Common side effects of the medicine include nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, stomach pain, and rash.
