Product Description

Foracort inhaler 6/200 mcg (120 mdi) is a prescription medicine for treating asthma in patients six years of age ad older. Budesonide and Formoterol are the active ingredients in the Foracort inhaler. The combination medicine is used as twice-daily maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The combination drug should not be used to relieve acute bronchospasm.

If asthma symptoms appear between the doses, a short-acting beta-agonist should be used for immediate relief. For patients twelve years of age and older, the dosage is two inhalations of Foracort inhaler. The recommended starting dose in adult and adolescent patients twelve years and older are based on the severity of the condition. Foracort inhalation usually delivers noticeable changes within fifteen minutes of initiating the treatment. Note that the benefit may not be achieved for two weeks or longer after initiating the treatment. Every individual is different and hence experience a different time of onset and degree of symptom relief.

How To Use

Foracort inhaler 6/200 mcg is available as a metered-dose inhaler containing a combination of Budesonide and Formoterol. The combination inhaler should be used as two inhalations twice daily every day. After inhalation, the patient should rinse the mouth with water without swallowing the water. Before inhaling the drug, prime it before using it the first time by releasing two sprays into the air and shake well before use. If you have not used your inhaler for more than seven days, prime the inhaler again by shaking it well and releasing the medication in the air away from your face.

Precautions

Foracort inhaler 6/200 mcg should not be used in the primary treatment of status asthmaticus or another acute episode of asthma or COPD where intensive measures are required.  Also, do not use it if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients in the Foracort inhaler. Before taking Budesonide and Formoterol inhaler, talk to your doctor if you have diabetes, lung infection, severe liver problems, low potassium levels, high blood pressure, problems with thyroid or adrenal glands. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before taking the combination medicine. If you become pregnant while receiving this asthma treatment, talk to your doctor immediately.  

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Foracort inhaler 6/200 mcg can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects of the medicine are palpitations, trembling, shaking, mild sore throat, headache, pneumonia. If any of these unwanted effects happen to you, stop using the combination asthma drug and speak to your doctor. Tell your doctor straight away if you develop fever, chills, increased mucus production, increased cough, or breathing difficulties.
