Pentids 400 mg is a prescription treatment for serious infections caused by susceptible strains of certain microorganisms. It contains the active ingredient Penicillin G, an antibiotic agent used to treat various bacterial infections. It effectively treats infections of the ear, throat, nasal, sinuses, skin and soft tissue, respiratory tract, and sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis. The medicine is equally effective when used in the prevention of rheumatic fever. Being an antibiotic, Penicillin G stops bacteria from growing or kills the bacteria. 

How To Use

Do not skip doses and finish the full course of antibiotic treatment even if you feel better. Sudden discontinuation may lead to the infection returning or worsens. Your doctor will decide the precise dosage and total duration of the treatment. The medicine dosage usually depends on the patient’s condition and how the patient responds to the treatment. Follow your doctor’s advice on how you need to take the drug. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration as the age and severity of the disease differ from person to person. Adults are advised to take the dose of Pentids 400 mg with a meal. Do not consume more or less than the prescribed amount. Antibiotics can cause diarrhea, which could indicate the formation of a new infection. If you have bloody or watery diarrhea, discontinue treatment and call your doctor straight away.  

Precautions

Before taking Pentids 400 mg, inform your doctor straight away if you are allergic to Penicillin G or other antibiotic agents. Patients receiving this antibiotic drug may experience vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, and allergic reactions. These side effects are temporary and usually resolves after a few days of the treatment. Consult your doctor straight away if any of these side effects persist for a longer duration or if your condition worsens. The antibiotic is generally safe and well-tolerated in pregnant women if used under the supervision of a doctor. Penicillin G can pass into breast milk and may harm your nursing baby. So, it is important to inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby. To make sure the drug is safe, tell your doctor if you have asthma, heart disease, kidney disorder, liver problems, take diuretics, antibiotics, including sulfa drugs. Also, let your doctor know if you have a history of an allergic reaction to a cephalosporin antibiotic such as ceftin, Keflex, Omnicef, cefzil, etc.  

Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you develop signs of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the lips, throat, and tongue. Speak to your doctor straight away if you notice red or scaly skin, little or no urinating, seizure, severe stomach pain, bloody or watery diarrhea, seizures, skin rash, unusual changes in mood or behaviour, fast heartbeats, fever, chills, swollen glands, join, and muscle pain. Common side effects of the medicine include headache, mild diarrhea, black or hairy tongue, pain, swelling, irritation, or bruising.
