Herpex Cream 5 gm is a topical prescription treatment for cold sores in adults and children twelve years of age and older. It contains the active ingredient Valacyclovir, which belongs to a group of medicines known as antiretroviral drugs. Herpex is not a cure for cold sores. However, it effectively reduces the appearance of cold sores that occur on the face or lips.

How To Use

Herpex Cream 5 gm is most effective when used early as soon as cold sore starts. For best results, apply the cream when the first signs of cold sores appear, including redness, bump, tingle, or itch. Wash your hands before applying the cream. Make sure you apply it to clean and dry skin. Apply a thin layer of Acyclovir cream to cover only the affected area. Rub the formulation until it disappears. Apply Herpex cream five times daily. Wash your hands even after applying the cream. This should remove any cream left on the hands.

Precautions

Use Herpex cream 5 gm only on the skin’s affected area. Do not swallow the cream. Avoid getting it into your eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not use this cream for genital herpes unless prescribed by your doctor. Do not cover the treated area with a bandage or dressing unless advised by your doctor. Do not apply another skincare product or other topical medication to the affected cold sore area while using acyclovir cream. Avoid irritation of the affected area while applying the cream. Do not bathe or swim after applying the medication. Before you start using the cream, tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. The topical medication may not be safe to use in patients younger than twelve years of age or in patients whose immune system does not function well.

Side Effects

Herpex Cream 5 gm is well tolerated in patients with cold sores. The most common side effects associated with Valacyclovir cream are dryness of skin, cracked lips, flakiness, burning sensation or itching of the skin. Ask your doctor and if you are concerned about the side effects of the medicine. Call your doctor if you develop any other unwanted effect.
