Simvastatin tab 10 mg is a prescription for patients with high cholesterol levels. It is combined with diet to help lower bad cholesterol and fats and increase good cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. The active ingredient simvastatin reduces the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering bad cholesterol and fats and increasing good cholesterol levels decreases the risk of heart-related complications and helps prevent heart attacks and strokes. This cholesterol-lowering drug works best with proper diet and lifestyle changes (regular exercise and weight loss).  

How To Use

Your dose and how often you need to take the Simvastatin tablet depend on your age, the condition being treated, how severe the condition is, and other medical conditions you have. Usually, this medicine is taken orally once daily in the evening. You may need to take this medicine in addition to a diet low in sugar, fat, and cholesterol. Carefully follow your doctor’s advice. Drinking large amounts of grape juice regularly may make you more likely to develop muscle injury and could also cause kidney impairment.  f

Precautions

Before taking Simvastatin, let your doctor know if you are allergic to it or develop other allergies. This medicine may also contain inactive ingredients, contributing to allergic reactions or other problems. Simvastatin oral tablets may interact with other medicines, vitamins, or herbal products that you may be taking.

A drug interaction may be harmful and prevent a drug from working well. Examples of medicines that can cause interactions with Simvastatin include itraconazole, voriconazole, Posaconazole, cyclosporine, erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, indinavir, atazanavir, tipranavir, ritonavir, other cholesterol-lowering drugs (fenofibrate, niacin, lomitapide, gemfibrozil), heart medications, blood thinners, etc.

Using this medication during pregnancy may harm your unborn baby. Use an effective contraceptive measure to keep you away from pregnancy during the treatment. Inform your doctor immediately if you develop a headache, dark-coloured urine, vomiting, stomach pain, weight loss, loss of appetite, light-coloured stools, general tiredness, or yellow skin or eyes. 

Side Effects

A very serious allergic reaction to Simvastatin is rare. However, it is important to get immediate medical help if you develop symptoms of an allergic reaction, including rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. More common side effects of the medicine include fainting, dizziness, and fast or irregular heartbeat.
